Sermon Notes
Our Father In Heaven
Pastor Kevin Wilson
Matthew 6:9a

“To pray with intimacy to God as father is not a human right; it is a spiritual privilege. It is a privilege for the people of God who have been born again by the Spirit of God. “To all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God” (John 1:12–13). It is not our natural human birthright to call God “Father”; it is our born-again spiritual birthright.” Kevin DeYoung, The Lord’s Prayer

Jesus gives us a pattern to pray by.

We pray to a Father who occupies heaven.

“She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” Matthew 1:21

“Be not rash with your mouth, nor let your heart be hasty to utter a word before God, for God is in heaven and you are on earth. Therefore, let your words be few.” Ecclesiastes 5:2

“When Jesus had spoken these words, he lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, ‘Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son that the Son may glorify you, since you have given him authority over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him.”        John 17:1

“For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.” Romans 8:15-17

The Lord's Prayer

Spiritual Gifts Class

Our upcoming sermon series is a 6-week journey through The Lord’s Prayer in Matthew 6:9-13. When Jesus’ disciples asked Him, “Lord, teach us to pray,” He gave them a model that both teaches us how to pray and shapes the way we relate to God and live as His people.

Find a Group, Explore the Sermon Resources and Let's Dig in together!
This two-part class offers a concise, biblical introduction to spiritual gifts. Together, we’ll explore an overview of spiritual gifts, clear up common misconceptions, and help you identify and grow in your unique gifts.
